Butyric acid (also butanoic acid) is an organic chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acids. It occurs naturally in hard cheeses, milk and silage. Unfortunately, the supplementation of butyric acid for our intestines with food does not bring too spectacular results because most often passing through our digestive system does not reach our small intestine where it is the main energy substrate for cells of our intestinal epithelium.
